The MYSTERY OF THE EGYPTIAN SCROLL is the first book in the Secret Agent Zet
Series.
Eleven-year-old Zet and his sister run their family's pottery stall in a
Thebes marketplace set in ancient Egypt. Their mother must stay at home to take
care of their infant brother and their father has gone to fight the Hyksos in
the Pharaoh's army. One extra slow day the medjay [Ancient Egyptian police] chase
a thief through the marketplace. The man is accused of stealing a valuable
scroll. When the man escapes without a trace, the medjay offer a reward for
information that will lead to the capture of the thief. This sounds like a
perfect opportunity to Zet. The pottery business has been slow. Money is short
and he is determined to earn the reward. Of course finding the real thief turns
about to be a lot more difficult than he expects. And dangerous. Not just for
him, but his family.
This is an action packed adventure set
in ancient Thebes. The author's attention to historical details, while making
Zet feel like a contemporary kid, is well done. Fast paced. Exciting.
Compelling mystery. A totally fun read.
