THE NAME OF THS BOOK IS SECRET is the first book
in the Secret series.
The most important character in this book is the
narrator, who literally takes over from page one. The actual mystery doesn't
get going until about page 15 after the narrator assumes the reader has
accepted his deal to, "forget everything you read as soon as you read
it." At this point the story begins, but of course the names and places
have been changed to protect the innocent in Your Hometown. The story finally begins about two kids, "Cass
and Max-Ernest" who discover a secret society operating in their [your]
hometown whose goal is to achieve immortality at any cost. Of course, this puts
the kids in all sorts of exciting situations as they try to thwart the society.
Although
the narrator might be annoying to adults, most kids will be delighted with his
attitude, off the wall comments, and irreverent observations. They won't mind
that he delays getting on with the mystery.
TARGET AUDIENCE: grades 4-7
MYSTERY / SUSPENCE: age appropiate
