Okay, I'm bending my rule again. MATCHED may not be a dyed-in-the-wool
traditional mystery, but something very mysterious has happened to
seventeen-year-old Cassia. She lives in a futuristic dystopian society where
nothing is left to chance. Where Society is never wrong. Never makes mistakes.
Is to be trusted and never questioned. Society has created the optimum
lifestyle by planning every aspect of its citizens' lives from cradle to death.
Cassia has never had to question what's the best for her future. It's all been
laid out for her__ the food she eats, the books she reads, how she
spends her free time, and most important who she will be matched with and marry.
Life seems perfect until two guys faces appear on-screen as her perfect match.
The first is of her best friend Xander, and it's followed for just a split
second by Ky Markham's face. How could this happen? Society doesn't make
mistakes. Or does it? An Official tells her it was a rare malfunction and that
Xander is her perfect match. Ky can't be her match. He's an anomaly and not
allowed to marry. Cassia knows she should be happy. She's always loved Xander.
Then why can't she stop thinking about Ky? Compelled to discover the truth, she
begins to question the infallibility of Society. It's rules. It's perfect
solutions. Her life.
This was a great read. Not only
does the story tug at the reader's heartstrings as Cassia must choose
between two great guys, it also explores the role of society. And of the choices we make. I highly
recommend this book.
