FROM THE MAILBOX

FROM THE MAILBOX

Dear SD Brown,

I lost something important. Can I use detective skills to find it?
Anonymous

Dear Reader,

Of course you can. It's the only way to find it!
To be honest, I'm a little curious what "it" is, and why you asked me FOR HELP ANONYMOUSLY instead of a friend or your parents. You haven't given me much information to go on, but I assume it's something that's SUPER IMPORTANT. And something that will TOTALLY EMBARASS you. OR get you in BIG TROUBLE, because it's missing. Whichever is true, you definitely need to put your Sherlock hat on.

For starters, ask yourself: Did you lose "it" or did someone take "it"?

If you mislaid "it", think back to the last time you saw "it".
What were you doing?
Where was "it" located?
What did you do with "it"? (If anything.)
Were you alone?
THINK! THINK! THINK!
You've got the picture, now it's time to retrace your steps from that moment forward. Use your eyes and LOOK, LOOK, LOOK. Leave no pillow, rock or newspaper unturned.

Still haven't found "it"?

It's time to consider who would have taken it and why.
            Is "it" valuable?
Is someone mad at you and maybe took "it" for revenge?
How easy is "it" to hide?
Who was in the room with you the last time you saw "it"?
Did they leave any clues behind?
What would they want "it" for?
Could they sell "It"?
ETC.?
ETC.?

In other words, think up EVERYTHING possible and track down every lead. I could go on and on… but you have to get started.

HAPPY SLEUTHING,

DETECTIVE BROWN
