CODE
TALK 101
In the movies, books and real life spies have used all sorts of codes
and code words. Sometimes it's to pass information. Other times, code phrases
help identify a fellow spy, pass on a warning or give an okay to start a covert
mission. When I was in school, my friends and I used code phrases to pass or
share what we considered important information. Here are a few samples of the
codes we used.
Example:
"Charlie died," one
girl would whisper into another girlfriend's ear.
The
second girl's eyes would open wide and her face flush red. "How long ago?
When?"
"Almost
two years ago."
"Thanks,
I've got to go." The girl would disappear into the bathroom and return
shortly, relieved.
"Charlie
died." = "Your slips showing."
"Two
years." = "2 inches."
Why was this important?
Because at my school girls were required to wear dresses. Nothing could be more
embarrassing than having your slip hanging down from under your hem. And why
was this so embarrassing? Because slips are underwear and as such should not be
seen, especially by a guy in your class. Times have changed. Hardly anyone
wears slips anymore.
More
codes:
INCOMING = Cute guy
ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING = This
guy/girl/teacher's crazy
SORRY, CAN'T GO I HAVE HOMEWORK = Call me
A.S.A.P.
I'M NOT ALLOWED TO DATE = looser
THE PIG FLIES AT MIDNIGHT = I'll be there
FOR FUN think up some code phrases with your
friends and see how cool it can be.
