This is a nonfiction book that looks at monsters from literature and age-old myths and legends. In the author's words, "Almost every monster myth can be traced back to some kind of explanation." This is exactly how the book progresses. A description of the monster followed by possible explanations of its origin. There are chapters on mummies, vampires, werewolves, zombies, the Frankenstein monster, ghosts, Cyclopes, and witches.

The book is well paced, and easy to read full of fascinating information. Kids will love this, especially boys.
