Alice-Miranda
Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones is the youngest girl to be accepted at the
Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies. It's an exclusive
boarding school. She arrives a day early and it's obvious that something is
amiss. The well-manicured gardens are drab. The staff seems miserable. The
headmistress Miss Grimm is nowhere
to be seen. On top of this, a mysterious
stranger is lurking on the grounds. When the other girls arrive the next day,
Alice-Miranda manages to become the target of the meanest girl in school. None
of this dampens Alice-Miranda's spirit. Instead she sets out to discover the
School's big secret and to set things right.
Girls will really enjoy
Alice-Miranda's unstoppable optimism as she manages to positively influence
almost everyone she meets. It's a fun read and has a most suitable
age-appropriate mystery woven into the otherwise delightful world. This book
will not appeal to boys.
Target audience: grades 4-6
Mystery/ Suspense: fun
Kid appeal: girls
