Humphrey
is a hamster in Room 26 at Longfellow School. The rest of his classmates
include Og the frog and a bunch of interesting kids. Mrs. Brisbane is their
teacher. Humphrey loves her and the story she's begins to read to the class. He
can't wait to hear the end. But the next morning, instead of Mrs. Brisbane teaching the
class, there's a substitute teacher
and he's not interested in reading a boring
old mystery. He's just interested in having fun. It isn't long before the class
is falling apart and Humphrey is worried. When will Mrs. Brisbane return?
What's happened to her? Where is she? It's a real life mystery that Humphrey is
determined to solve.
Humphrey is an engaging narrator as he navigated school life from a
hamster's perspective. He's smart, but at times just doesn't understand human
behavior. He's brave. He's loyal. Boys and girls should enjoy the story and
helping him solve the mystery of his missing teacher.
Target audience: Grades 3-5
Mystery/ suspense: fun
Kid appeal: good
