BOOK REVIEW: NAZI HUNTERS

NAZI HUNTERS
Neal Bascomb
Houghton
2009

Available: hard cover, paperback, Kindle

This is a non-fiction book about the hunt for and capture of Adolf Eichmann. Eichmann was the Nazi officer held responsible for the plan (The Final Solution) that killed six million Jews during World War II. When the war ended, Germany was in chaos. Many of the Nazi war criminals escaped and assumed new identities. Many went into hiding in South America. 15 years after the end of the war, Eichman
was discovered living in Argentina. He became the target of the Mossad, a newly formed secret service intelligence agency in Israel. The narrative traces the seven years from his discovery in Argentina to his capture and trial. The book is full of photographs of the main players in his capture as well as several primary documents. It feels like a real-life spy novel, full of intrigue and a huge cast of characters__ from a young girl to seasoned Mossad agents.
It's a well researched book with attention to detail and a great addition to any school library or on the shelf of World War II fans. What's especially nice is that the author has tried to humanize all the players. Even Eichmann.

Target audience: Grades 7-10
Mystery/suspense: high

Kid Appeal: kid history buffs
